The “bubbling spring” is half an hour away from Ubud and is one of Bali’s most important temples and pilgrimage sites for spirituals, because the water is supposed to protect body and mind from evil gods and demons and has a strong healing power. The traditional purification ceremony, a ritual with great spiritual power for the Balinese, is an authentic and unforgettable experience. In order to cleanse yourself under each of the 12 fountains and free yourself from illnesses or negative thoughts, you first stand patiently in line in the water basin. But don’t forget sarong, offerings and changing clothes. It is best to book a local guide about the hotel who knows the ritual and performs the ceremony with you. Early in the morning or late in the afternoon is the best time to experience the sacred place a little quieter. Many Balinese families come on Sunday or the full moon.
